imageLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to the site of collapse of the wall of an under-construction godown at Quaid-e-Azam Interchange near Manawan and sought details of the tragic incident.

He expressed deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of labourers and offered Fateha for the departed souls.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that death of labourers due to collapse of an under-construction wall is tragic and Punjab government fully sympathies with the bereaved families.

He said that despite ban, construction of a factory and a godown in a congested area is a question mark on the performance of concerned departments.

He said that he had imposed a ban on construction of factories in populated areas a few years ago and the ban was openly violated in this case.

The Chief Minister vowed that those responsible would not be able to escape punishment. He said that he is deeply grieved over the incident and come to the site to personally review the situation. He said that he had taken notice of this tragic incident and besides officials of departments concerned, action would also be taken against factory owner under the law.

He promised that all out efforts would be made for provision of justice to the families of the deceased besides the persons responsible would be taken to task.

He said that Punjab government would look after the families and the children of the deceased labourers.

He said that law would take its course against the elements involved in illegal construction work as well as negligent officials.

The Chief Minister took strict notice of the construction of goodown without permission and ordered immediate arrest of its owner.

He said that the godown owner will also have to pay a sum of Rs.30 lakh each to the families of deceased labourers. He said that those who had committed this cruelty would be taken to task as he had always been standing with labourers.

The Chief Minister paid a detailed visit to the site of the tragedy and inquired from the administration the details of the incident.

He expressed his extreme displeasure over the construction of the goodown without NOC and reprimanded the officers concerned.

He directed that necessary safety measures should be taken for the protection of life of labourers. Earlier, the Chief Minister visited the site of the construction company working on orange line metro train project and expressing sorrow and grief over the death of labourers prayed for the departed souls.

Kh. Ahmad Hasaan, Waheed Gul MPA, Commissioner Lahore Division, DG LDA and officials concerned were present on the occasion.
