imageKARACHI: A review meeting of pace of work on Karachi Hyderabad Motorway M-9, Lyari Express Way (LEW) and other development projects of Karachi was held here on Monday presided over by Governor Sindh, Dr. Ishrat ul Ebad Khan.

The meeting was attended by Minister Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, Chairman National Highway Authority Shahid Ashraf Tarar, Principal Secretary to Governor Sindh Muhammad Hussain Syed, Director General Frontier Works Organization Major General Muhammad Afzal, Secretary Local Government Noor Muhammad Leghari, Commissioner Karachi Syed Asif Hyder Shah, Municipal Commissioner Sami uddin Siddiqui, Deputy Commissioners of Karachi Central and West and other relevant officers.

Governor Sindh directed for accelerating pace of work and completing the project by December this year so as to ensure its maximum benefits to Karachiites.

The purpose of continuous meetings of all stake holders was to ensure prompt removal of all bottlenecks in way of development projects in their presence, he added.

Dr. Ebad said that it was very unfortunate that work on this project of vital importance for Karachiites remained in limbo due to various reasons for a longtime. As work on this crucial express way has started after a gap of eight years, all stakeholders must ensure that it is completed as soon as possible, he added.

Governor Sindh said that there was now a dispute of right of way of only 1.1 Kilometers and it is hoped that it would be resolved by next week through court.

He lauded the timely release of funds and the liabilities by NHA and commended the pledge of Chairman of the Authority to provide necessary funds when needed, which would help in completion of this project within stipulated time.

He directed Deputy Commissioners of West and Central to maintain close liaison with FWO authorities and keep them updated on the matter of remaining right of way.

The initiation of work of Karachi-Hyderabad motor way M-9 was also very commendable as this 136 KM state-of-the-art motorway would provide updated and modern travelling facilities to commuters, he added.

Governor Sindh also directed for preparation of revised feasibility report of Malir Express way so as to initiate the same as soon as possible.

He hailed initiation of Sukkur- Multan motorway, and hoped that it would be completed within stipulated time. As the law and order situation has improved considerably in the province emphasis is being laid on accelerated completion of various development projects, he added.

Ebad also directed MD KW&SB to resolve the matter of design of K-IV project so as to ensure its early initiation.

Chairman, NHA, Shahid Ashraf Tarar gave assurance on the occasion that North bound track of LEW would be completed and opened for the use of Karachiites by 25th December this year.

Every step including prompt release of required funds would be ensured in this regard, he further pledged.

Director General Frontier Works Organization Major General Muhammad Afzal informed the Governor Sindh that latest equipment and machinery have been deployed at construction site. Difficulties are being witnessed in construction work due to matter of right of way in patches, which would be resolved soon, he concluded.
