imageLAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday suspended operation of Islamia University Bahawalpur's circular for quashing B.A degree of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNA Ghulam Sarwar Khan.

Justice Shahid Karim passed these orders while hearing a petition filed by Ghulam Sarwar Khan challenging university's step of quashing his result and degree. The court also issued notices to the university and other respondents and sought report till March 7.

During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel Syed Ali Zafar argued that the petitioner was being victimised on political grounds and it was the reason that the Islamia University Bahawalpur had illegally cancelled the result and B.A degree of the petitioner.

He said the university took the step on information of Punjab Board of Technical Education (PBTE) that it had cancelled petitioner's diploma, equivalent to intermediate.

Ali Zafar pointed out that the Lahore High Court had set aside the orders of the PBTE earlier but despite the fact, the university proceeded against the petitioner.

He said the step was taken 13 years after the petitioner had obtained the degree and no opportunity of personal hearing was provided in the matter.

He contended that the step was "void ab initio" and violative of the fundamental rights enshrined in the constitution.

He pleaded to set aside the circular for quashing degree of the petitioner. He also requested the court to suspend operation of the circular.

The court after recording initial arguments suspended the operation of the circular and sought report.
