KARACHI: The billboards and hoardings in the city that are contrary to the code of conduct regarding the local bodies polls, would be removed.
This was decided at a meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, on Tuesday.
A statement said that the meeting reviewed the code of conduct regarding the coming local bodies polls in the metropolis.
The meeting was attended by the Regional Election Commissioner, the District Returning Officers, representatives of the political parties, Additional IGP Karachi and deputy commissioners.
The Commissioner said that the candidates should follow the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan as this would help peaceful and transparent holding of the polls.
He was of the view that the administration was assisting the Election Commission for ensuring peaceful and transparent conduct of the local bodies polls.
The Commissioner was of the view that the holding of the local bodies polls augurs well and this would help resolve the problems of the people at grassroots level.
The meeting decided that all the billboards and hoardings in the city that are contrary to the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission, would be removed. The political parties would also assist in this regard.
The political parties have been asked to meet the requirements of the corner meetings and desist from making these public meetings. The code of conduct should also be follow towards the use of loudspeakers.
The representatives of the political parties also assured cooperation towards the peaceful and transparent conduct of the polls and also gave suggestions, says a statement issued from the Commissioner's Office.
