ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain Monday called for establishment of training institutions for effectively tackling natural calamities and to minimise damages caused by these incidents.
He was talking to a delegation from University of Dublin, Ireland here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The President appreciated the cooperation of University of Dublin in training of workers and building institutional capacities of disaster management institutions in Pakistan.
He expressed the hope that Ireland would continue extending such cooperation in future as well.
The President said Pakistan needs trained medical staff and workers to adequately meet and tackle the challenges of natural disasters and new diseases.
He appreciated the efforts of Dr. Saeed Elahi of PRCS and directed for concerted efforts to effectively handle natural calamities.
Dr. Saeed Elahi, Chairman Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) was also present on the occasion.
The Irish delegation comprised, among others, Professor Gerard Bury, Dean, Head of Immediate Care Department University College Dublin, Ireland, Dr. Shane Knox, Director Medical Education for Pre-hospital Emergency Care Dublin, Macartan Hughes, Director Medical Education, National Ambulance Services College Dublin, Dr. Junaid Sarfaraz Khan, Pro Vice Chancellor, University of Health Sciences, Lahore and Dr. Khurram Shahzad, representative of overseas Pakistanis.
