imageWASHINGTON: Reiterating Pakistan's desire for peace and stability in the South Asian region, Pakistan's ambassador to the United States, Jalil Abbas Jilani said on Thursday that Pakistan has no aggressive design against any country in the region.

Speaking at a reception hosted by the Pakistan Embassy to commemorate the Defence Day of Pakistan, the ambassador paid tributes to those Pakistani men and women who laid down their lives while defending the country against Indian aggression in 1965.

He said that Pakistan had no aggressive design against any country and the capability enhancement of its armed forces remained focused on ensuring territorial integrity and providing security to the nation against all threats.

The ambassador said that Pakistan looks forward to continue mutually beneficial relations with the United States and was engaged with all its friends and partners to ensure a safer and secure world for all.

On Pakistan-US relations, Ambassador Jilani said that the defence forces of the two countries were working together on a wide spectrum of common objectives including counter-terrorism, countering threats from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) .

He expressed satisfaction over the current state of ties between Pakistan and the United States and appreciated efforts by the US government for peace and stability in the region. He duly acknowledged the multifaceted support and assistance of the United States to Pakistan.

The ambassador also recalled sacrifices rendered by the brave soldiers of Pakistan, sailors and airmen of Pakistani Armed Forces during the 1965 war. He paid special tributes to the martyred men and women as well as their families.

The ambassador also reiterated resolve of the resilient Pakistani nation to overcome all challenges and emphasized on the significance of relationships among nations to deal with contemporary issues facing the world.

Earlier, Defence Attache, Brigadier Chaudhary Sarfraz Ali welcomed the distinguished guests. He paid tributes to the country's valiant armed forces and said Pakistan wants to resolve all issues through peaceful means but its forces were ready to defend the country at all cost.

He also said that Pakistan greatly valued support of the United States in the area of defence cooperation and its support to fighting extremists.

On the occasion, a documentary was shown to the guest about Pakistan and its efforts to defend the country against all aggression. Display areas were set up to highlight the bravery and courage of Pakistani military in 1965 war.

The event was well attended with representation from US Govt (both civilian and military) and diplomatic community including military representatives of the allied and partner nations.
