imagePESHAWAR: Sixteen worshipers offering Fajar prayers were martyred inside a mosque here on early Friday morning in terrorists' attack at Pakistan Air Force (PAF) camp Badaber, said Director General ISPR.

"Captain Asfandyar also embraced martyrdom while fighting valiantly and leading troops from the front," tweeted Director General ISPR Maj General Asim Salim Bajwa.

He said terrorists entered the camp at 2 points and further split into sub groups. The encounter began immediately due to quick response by the troops and the terrorists were contained within a close area.

Meanwhile a group of terrorists rushed to the mosque situated inside the camp and martyred 16 worshipers offering prayers.

He said 13 terrorists were surrounded by security forces and killed. Ten soldiers and two army officers have been injured in the attack.

According to Rescue service, 22 people have been injured in the attack and shifted to CMH and Lady Reading Hospitals where emergency was declared.

Pakistan Army commandos and personnel of the Pakistan Air Force and Quick Reaction Force (QRF) carried out a clearance operation at the Badaber camp, 10 kilometres south of Peshawar.

He said operation was underway to search for any remaining terrorists. KP Information Minister Mushtaq Ghani said that security forces were currently carrying out the operation, while police have cordoned off the area with bomb disposal squad also present.

Ghani said that the police also responded immediately and reached the location as soon as it received information.

CCPO Peshawar Mubarak Zeb said that security forces effectively thwarted the terrorists' attempts to enter the base. He said that the operation would soon be completed and the area will be cleared.

Major Haseeb of the Quick Reaction Force (QRF) and two soldiers who were injured in the exchange of fire with the attackers were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Peshawar.

Rescue officials said the remaining injured had been taken to various hospitals for treatment.

The DG ISPR said a clearance operation was underway being led by the Peshawar Brigade Commander with Quick Response Force, Army commandos, local PAF troops and police was present outside the base. The Peshawar Corps Commander was also on the ground overseeing operations.
