imageISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Tuesday welcomed opposition's offers to jointly find out the solution of electricity crisis in the country.

Speaking in the National Assembly, he said that, "If opposition parties are wanted to support us on the electricity issue, we are ready to sit with them to find out solution of the crisis jointly."

The minister also offered to brief the National Assembly about the two years performance of the ministry of water and power.

Khawaja Asif said that he was accountable to National Assembly and the House could question his performance as he was answerable to parliamentarians.

He admitted before the House that people of the country had endured hardships due to loadshedding in first three days of the Ramazan but now the position had much improved.

The Minister said the ministry of water and power had no control over Karachi Electric Supply Cooperation (KESC).

He said the government had only 26 percent of the KESC while private investors had the full control of it.

Khawaja Asif said that the KESC was privatized during Musharraf era while agreement was re-negotiated in the regime of Pakistan People Party (PPP).

He said the government had only two members in the board of governor in the KESC adding that federal government was providing 650 mw to KESC keeping in view the miseries the people.

He also informed the Hose that the government had no plan to nationalize the KESC.
