imageISLAMABAD: Pakistan's progress lies in education and elimination of corruption, Punjab Governor Choudhry Mohammad Sarwar said while addressing a large gathering of Pakistani community at a local hotel in Jeddah.

The Saudi Gazette on Tuesday reported that the governor, who is on a private visit to the Saudi Arabia, also visited Knowledge Core Center - a local vocational training institute run by Pakistani professionals, where he assured them that upon return he will recommend Punjab government to open an overseas campus of the University of Punjab.

"I will also ask investors back home to invest in the idea," he said.

Flanked by Pakistan charged' affaires Khayyam Akbar and N-League Riyadh President Khalid Akram Rana, the governor mixed freely with Pakistani professionals, businessmen and workers.

He said: "If Pakistanis become as patriotic as overseas Pakistanis are, the destiny of the nation will change."

Recalling his days as a British-Pakistani, and then as the first Pakistani and a Muslim to be elected to the British Parliament, the governor advised expats in the kingdom to invoke high moral grounds and make education tool for progress.

Sarwar distributed awards to several Pakistani expatriates in the Saudi capital for their outstanding contributions to the community.
