imageISLAMABAD: The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) will complete the ongoing renovation, expansion and development work at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) Islamabad by January 2015.

Talking to APP, the CAA spokesman, Mubarak Shah said here on Monday that the authority was making all possible efforts to enhance the parking area, expand the international departure briefing area and create space for installation of latest security equipments, and extra passengers' check-in counters.

He said that the BBIA is facing the inherited problem of space congestion with the increasing number of foreign airlines operation. However, he said, in this regard, the top management of the authority is taking practical steps to bring improvements.

The spokesman said that the expansion work at the airport will also create space for installation of latest security equipments, extra passengers' check-in counters and spacious area for maneuvering of passengers.

The spokesman said that the separate and exclusive car park of functionaries has considerably reduced the congestion in the exiting car park of passengers. He said that functionary car park is being constructed, located at Nur Khan Base road, has the capacity to accommodate 300 cars and 300 motorcycles of the employees.

He said that facility of taxi-way at the airport would help in reducing fuel consumption of the airlines and time of the passengers. Flight staggering technique is applied to accommodate more aircraft and segregate the passengers' influx for their ultimate convenience, he added.

He said a passengers' complaint center is being established for resolving complains of the passengers. The airport's functional control forum is actively involved through close coordination so that all stakeholders i.e. customs, Immigration, ASF, Anti Narcotics Force, Airport Health, Airlines and ground handling agencies can take part in enhancing customers' facilities, he added.
