imageHYDERABAD: Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjil Inam Memon has announced the launching of one month long health and sanitation campaign from September 22, 2014 all over Sindh.

With consultation of all political parties of the province, the Sindh Government has made a final decision that no political pressure or influence will be accepted in this respect and the government employees who are found negligent in duty will be strictly taken to task, the Minister said.

The Minister expressed these remarks while talking to media persons after presiding over a meeting regarding review of the pace of work on development schemes here at old District Nazim Secretariat on Friday.

Besides health and sanitation campaign, the Minister informed that removal of illegal encroachments and occupation of land will also be carried out in all cities and towns of the province. During one month period, awareness regarding cleanliness will also be created among the people, he informed.

Talking about the development of Hyderabad, the Minister informed that a Master Plan will be prepared for the historic city under which development projects will be completed in different sectors. On the directives of PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari priority is being given to completion of important development projects, the Minister informed and added that all ongoing development schemes will be completed within the time frame.

About absence of the employees of local government from their duties, the Minister informed that a committee has been formed under the supervision of Commissioner Hyderabad Division with representation of PPP, MQM and Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad which will find out the ghost employees and take strict action against them including dismissal from service.

About interruption in supply of drinking water, the Minister informed that the management of WASA has been directed to ensure uninterrupted supply of water to citizens and also ensure the recovery of outstanding dues. The provincial government is ready to extend all cooperation for bringing WASA out from financial constraint, he added.

The Minister informed that for the first time ever in history, the provincial government has allocated a huge grant for payment of outstanding dues of electricity of WASA and Karachi Water Board.

The Minister informed that the government desired to complete the development schemes in all sectors in Hyderabad under a comprehensive plan. In the first phase of the plan, he informed that encroachments will be removed and after that the drainage and sewerage system of the historic city will be improved.

The construction of roads will be carried out in the next phase, he said and informed that the provincial government will also launch a project of upgrading of Hyderabad Filter Plant.

The Minister said that despite notices issued by the Building Control Authority, the people are not vacating the dangerous buildings in Hyderabad and Karachi. He appealed to the people to vacate such dangerous building in their own interests.

About local government election, Sharjil Inam Memon said that Sindh Assembly was the first to pass the Local Government Bill, however, after objection from allied party MQM, the government had decided to approach the court of law. In this direction, the Minister informed that Supreme Court also issued order to National Assembly to make amendment in the constitution regarding de-limitation of constituencies of the local government.

After removal of hurdles, the provincial government will conduct the local government elections in the province, the Minister said and informed that the government was also ready to conduct these elections in the past.
