ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Tuesday suspended the notifications for appointment of Pervez Rathore as acting chief of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) and Kamal-ud-din Tipo as Executive Member.
A single member bench of IHC comprising Justice Noorul Haq N. Qureshi resumed the hearing over contempt of court petition filed by Pemra's private member Israr Abbasi.
During the course of hearing, counsel for the petitioner Israr Abbasi apprised the bench that Rathore was functioning as acting Chairman PEMRA despite the IHC's June 9 orders.
He said that government issued amended notification of both officials which was the violation of court orders.
Abbasi had challenged the appointment of Rathore as acting chairman Pemra and Justice Qureshi on June 9 had ruled that "status quo shall be maintained" until June 17.
