imageISLAMABAD: Director Meterological Department, Muhammad Hanif said that the intensity of the winter season is likely to persist for a few more days while it has already increased in Balochistan province.

Talking to a private TV channel, he said that the cold wave will continue for the next two to three days throughout the country and is not likely to reduce.

He said Kalat is braving -15 degrees while the temperature in Quetta has also dropped below the freezing point and is -12 degrees. On the other hand, Miranshah is also facing extreme weather snowfall occurred after five years.

He maintained that extreme weather is prevalent in Northern Balochistan along with other northern areas. People are facing extreme difficulties as running water is no more available for the citizens and has transformed into ice.

Mercury has also dropped in other upper areas including Gilgit, Skardu, Astore, Diamar and Hunza Nagar. Snowfall and cold breeze is creating hazards for the locals as it is difficult to carry out day to day chores due to the severe weather, he added.

Hanif said that weather turned frigid in Miranshah when snowfall occurred after five years. Like North Waziristan, weather is turning cold in Punjab and Sindh as well where citizens face difficulties during early morning and late night due to severe cold.

He said that this extreme cold wave would continue for further 2/3 days, while light rain and snowfall on the mountains expected in the upper areas.

The country's plain areas shivered in the grip of severe cold, report said Lahore witnessed zero temperature for the fist time in the current season, while Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan also recorded zero temperature, Gujrat minus 2, Islamabad minus 3, Multan 2 and Karachi's minimum temperature recorded at 3 degree Celsius.

Up in the hilly areas things went all the worse as Kalat recorded minimum temperature at minus 15, Quetta minus 13, Skardu minus 12, Parachanar minus 10 and Rawalakot minus 6 degree Celsius freezing tap water, lakes and streams.
