He was addressing the young parliamentary associates at the start of training session of YPAs at the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS).

The Young Parliamentary Associates programme is a flagship initiative of the European Union (EU) funded Improving Parliamentary Performance (IP3) project that is being implemented in collaboration with PIPS.

He said the processes is an exemplary effort and a wonderful initiative that is bound to make a positive contribution to the deepening of democracy in Pakistan

He said this is the first time that such a large number of associates have been provided to assist the parliament, said a press here.

YPAs will serve the Committees of the National Assembly and Senate for a period of 15 months. The YPAs were selected after an exhaustive and highly competitive national recruitment exercise. They bring with them excellent academic records and potential for leadership in policy formulation.

PIPS Executive Director Khan Ahmad Goraya said of the YPA programme training that it, "has been designed to develop the participant's insights about all important aspects of the working of the parliament, role of parliamentary secretariats, parliamentary committees, legislative research and it will also equip the YPAs with skills in legislative drafting, technical report writing and official correspondence" that is an important step towards establishing a seat of quality oriented non-partisan research support to Pakistan's Parliament", he also spoke of how non-partisan research would contribute to parliament.

Anitra Jankevica, Team Leader IP3, expressed her confidence in the YPAs, "The YPAs reflect the continuing interest of parliament and its associated bodies to help make Pakistan's democracy stronger by employing the most qualified human resource to help in the research and support required for sound law making.
