PESHAWAR: Three days anti-polio drive has been kicked off on Monday in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to reach out to a target population of 6,92,574 children under the age of five.
Secretary Productions & Livelihood Fata Secretariat Farrukh Sair inaugurated the campaign here at FATA Secretariat.
Secretary Social Sectors FATA Dr Aftab Durrani and representatives of UNICEF and WHO were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Productions & Livelihood FATA urged upon parents to ensure polio vaccination to their children and protect them from lifelong disability.
He said that polio is not curable and two drops of vaccine is the only cure against the crippling disease.
The Government with the support of partners is committed to the cause of polio eradication and is taking all possible measures to stamp out the disease from the country.
As many as 2,695 teams have been constituted to reach out to a target population of 6,92,574 children in FATA.
Likewise, 623 Area In charges have been tasked to monitor the campaign and update micro planning.
