imageISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate, Syed Nayyer Hussain Bokhari on Thursday urged greater connectivity between Pakistan and China for enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.

"We should concentrate on enhancing economic cooperation through greater connectivity. We must continuously expand and deepen cooperation in all areas of mutual interest," he said in his speech delivered to welcome Chinese Prime Minister, Li Ke Qiang to the Senate of Pakistan.

Chinese Premier also addressed the upper house and reiterated to further cement the existing bilateral and time tested bonds of friendship between Pakistan and China.

"We look forward to maintaining the high level of political engagement that is hallmark of this unique relationship. Fostering greater cultural and student exchanges will help bring our two people closer," Bokhari added.

The Chairman said, Ke Qiang's decision to make Pakistan one of his first foreign destinations is symbolic of China's commitment to enhancing friendly ties with Pakistan. "The visit follows important political transition in both countries and reminds us that the all weather and time tested friendship between Pakistan and China remains unaffected to domestic and regional challenges."

Bokhari said, friendship with China remains a cornerstone of Pakistan's foreign policy and Pakistan will always stand firmly behind China on all issues that pertain to China's core national interests.

"We regard any threat to China's sovereignty as a threat to Pakistan's sovereignty. And we are grateful for China's principled and steadfast support for Pakistan's sovereignty, territorial integrity and economic development," he remarked.

The Chairman expressed desire for working as Chairman Senate of Pakistan, with Yu Zen Shen, Chairman Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference to intensify parliamentary contacts and exchanges between the two countries.

He stated that Pakistan fully subscribes to China's vision of `peaceful development' and `win-win cooperation' among nations.

"Pakistan will work with China at every forum for the promotion of peace and stability in the region and the world," Bokhari said.
