Heavy rain continues in Peshawar valley

PESHAWAR: The heavy rain continued lashing Peshawar valley with intermittent intervals here on Thursday, making the weather clod and chilly.

According to Spokesman of Met Office here, scattered rain-thunderstorm is expected to continue in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Upper Punjab, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gunjranwala and Lahore divisions during next 24 hours.

Peshawar has received 40 millimetre heavy rain till 10am today, which has inundated the low-laying areas of Latifabad, Nasapa, Watpaga, Pachagai, Hazarkhwani, Chamakani, Urmarpayan and Nispur areas, enhancing problems of residents.

The standing of rainy water on various roads especially under Survey bridge have increased the problems of motorists and pedestrians and are looking towards district administration for help.

The Spokesman said a westerly wave is affecting upper parts of the country and is likely to persist during next 24 to 36 hours. In next 48 hours, dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, however, rain-thunderstorm is predicted in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions.

Scattered rain-thunderstorm occurred in Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Upper & Central Punjab, Sukkur, Larkana divisions, Kashmir & Gilgit-Baltistan in last 24 hours.

The weather of Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand, Dir and Swat districts is expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of rain during this aforesaid period. Snow fall in the hills of Gilayat, Malam Jabba and Kalam is also predicted.

Chirat has received maximum 47milimeter rain followed by Mianwali 44mm, Peshawar (Civil) 40mm, Dir 35mm, Muzaffarabad 34mm, Malamjabba 33mm, Parachinar 31mm, Rawalakot 30mm, Balakot 27mm, Mirkhani 26mm, Risalpur 25mm, Drosh & Kakul 24mm, Lower Dir 23mm, Saidu Sharif & Sargodha 22mm respectively.

Similarly, Murree and Garidupatta 20mm, Pattan 19mm, D.I.Khan 17mm, Astore & Bhakkar 15mm, Kotli 14mm, Islamabad, Chitral & Rawalpindi 11mm, Kalam 10mm, Chakwal 09mm, Joharabad 08mm, Lahore (A/P) 05mm, Sialkot(A/P), Zhob & Bahawalpur 04 mm respectively.

The agriculturists said the ongoing rain will make positive impact on wheat crops and sufficient increase in per acre production was expected this year.

Parachinar and Quetta remained the coldest places of the country where -1 C temperature was recorded. The pollen count remained 12,784 per cubic meter.
