ISLAMABAD: Director, Meteorological Department Azmat Hayat has said that upcoming spell of rains will decrease the temperature in the country while 80 percent areas of the country are in the grip of cold waves.
Talking to PTV, he said spell of rains is likely to start from January 11 (Saturday) which will continue till Monday.
The Director said that the duration of winter this year will be short while its intensity will be high.
Talking to PTV, he said that snowfall is also expected in upper areas of the country and also on margalla hills of Islamabad on Sunday.
He said the current severe cold wave continuing in different parts of the country has broken record of last fifty years.
He said dense foggy conditions would continue over plain areas of Punjab and Peshawar, Sukkur and Larkana divisions.
Director met office said that temperature drops even in the day time in various cities and plain areas by six to eight degrees due to dense fog.
In Southern Punjab, maximum temperature usually remains in the range of 20 to 21 Celsius in the month of January which has now dropped to 12 to 14 Celsius, he added.
He said these cold waves will persist in the country till Saturday and the current wave of fog is going to continue in upper Punjab, KPK and Rawalpindi-Islamabad.
