 RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is likely to attend the High Level Policy Forum on Development of Framework for Green Economy next week in Brazil, it is reliably learnt.

The main purpose of the High Level Policy Forum on Development of Framework for Green Economy is to identify key challenges towards green economy and explore possible policy frameworks to promote green economy with the high-level policy makers.

The Forum will be organised by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea, Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI).

According to the information available on the website, the objectives of the high level policy forum are to strengthen global and regional cooperative partnerships to support the transformation of economic structure towards green economy through discussions on diverse policy options and strategies. The forum contributes to promoting two key themes namely, green economy and institutional framework at the global and regional levels. The event will provide a good chance to policy makers and key stakeholders to enhance awareness of challenges and opportunities in green economy, possible policy options to shift conventional resource-intensive economic structure towards green economy, specifically in the key sectors of sustainable consumption and production (SCP) patterns, resource efficiency and green infrastructure.

Green infrastructure development is also an integral part of public policies in promoting green economy in developing countries. Infrastructure decides patterns of economic growth; facilitates inputs (capital, labour and resources) for economic growth; improves human development; fills the regional income disparity; promotes equitable distribution of benefits; promote foreign investment to have impact on environment and social protection
