Balochistan-AssemblyPESHAWAR: The Government of Khyber Pakthunkhwa has allocated Rs 12180 million for promotion of education sector for fiscal year 2012-13 in the budget.

This was stated by Finance Minister Hamayun Khan while presenting budget here on Friday. He said education is an essential tool for human resource development, and a necessary ingredient for sustainable socio-economic growth, adding that investment in education contributes to accumulation of human capital, which is essential for higher income and sustainable economic growth.

The government has taken various initiatives for upgrading primary, middle and secondary schools, provision of basic facilities, furniture & equipments, individual & institutional capacity building, revamping of science and education facilities and to advance gender equality in the province particularly girls at the primary level and benefit packages were provided for teachers in remote and difficult areas.

An amount of Rs 12180 million was allocated for 90 projects. He said 50 primary schools to middle, 50 middle to high and 25 high to higher secondary schools would be constructed besides construction of 500 additional rooms and 100 new primary schools.

Similarly, science labs would be constructed at 50 high schools and IT labs in 245 schools. Model schools would be built in Haripur, Hangu, Charsadda, Batagram and Karak districts and later would be extended to others districts of KP.

He said eight female and six male degree colleges would be completed this year besides provision of books and sports equipments to 134 colleges.

He said a four yeaars of Bachelor of Science programme would also be started in 55 colleges of the province. He said 130 primary schools were established while 10 High schools were up-graded to Higher Secondary level.

As many as 70 Middle schools were up-graded to High level and30 Secondary schools were reconstructed.

As many as 350 schools were provided basic facilities, 700 additional class rooms were constructed in Primary, Middle & Secondary schools and 30 Mosque schools were converted to regular Primary schools. Likewise, 4.500 million Students were provided free text books and 0.361 million Girl students were provided stipends besides establishment of 12 male and female Government Colleges.
