imageISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Commerce here on Monday was informed that during the current season, over 120,000 ton mangoes would be exported compared to 84,000 tons exported last year.

Chief Executive Officer of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP),S.M. Munir told the committee that due to untiring efforts of the authority, the mango export was opened up to Australia, Libya, Mauritius and South Korea after being banned for 13 years.

He said demand of Pakistani mango in these countries specially in Japan had increased drastically where the mango export increased from 5 metric ton in 2014 to 81 MT in 2015.

The meeting which was held here under the Chairmanship of Senator Syed Shibli Faraz was informed that export of perishable commodities like vegetables and fresh fruits would further increase after the completion of China Pakistan Economic Corridor to China and Central Asian States.

S.M. Munir said the Pakistani exhibitions held abroad were gaining more and more attraction.

Minister for Commerce, Khurram Dastgir Khan said on the occasion that such exhibitions were not only causing promotion of Pakistan products but they were also helping to build positive image of the country abroad.

The committee was informed that the "Alishan Pakistan" expo held in New Delhi in 2014 was proved to be extremely successful as over 500,000 people visited the expo which was indicative of the fact that Indian people like Pakistan and Pakistani products.

Moreover the committee was informed that TDAP was also marketing Pakistani Dramas in the Central Asian States with dubbing of Russian language.

Senator Karim Khawaja proposed that new markets in Africa and Latin America should be explored where huge potential was available.

Khurram Dastgir Khan said that the government was planning to ask a Dutch company CBI to train Pakistan companies to enhance their exports.

Senator Saleem Mandviwala proposed that the TDAP should be made an independent body where professional people should be hired to further enhance exports of the country.

Senators Ilyas Ahmed Bilour, Mufti Abdul Sattar and Rubina Khalid also attended the meeting.
