KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)'s leader and Chief Minister Sindh's Special Assistant Waqar Mehdi has said a sum of Rs 10 billion would be earmarked in the provincial budget of fiscal year 2016-17 for development projects in Karachi.
In a press statement here Saturday, Mehdi said, the Chief Minister had already allocated Rs 1.9 billion special grant for works on various roads in Karachi and for installation of street lights.
"The PPP has never used development works to lure voters in the elections," he said, adding that the purpose of such projects was to serve the people.
Mehdi mentioned over a dozen flyovers and road projects which were undertaken during the last eight years of the PPP's government in Sindh.
He also credited the Sindh government for restoring peace in Karachi by bringing down overall crime by 80 percent.
