imageMULTAN: Seed cotton (Phutti) equivalent to 8.019 million (8,019,613) bales have reached ginneries across the country till November 15, registering a shortfall of 23.17 percent compared to corresponding period of last year.

According to a fortnightly report of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) issued, here Wednesday, out of total arrivals, Phutti equivalent to 6,924,395 bales has undergone the ginning process. The arrival at Punjab ginneries was recorded at over 4.65 million (4,653,857) bales recording a percentage decrease of 33.38 per cent compared to corresponding period of last year.

Arrivals at ginneries in Sindh were recorded at 3.36 million or 3,365,756 bales showing a percentage decrease of 2.52 per cent.

Textile Mills have purchased over 5.5 million or 5,518,065 bales, and exporters have bought 343,155 bales. Total sold out bales were calculated at 5.86 million or 5,861,220 bales.

Exactly 2,158,393 bales were still lying with the ginneries as the unsold stock, the report said.

Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has not yet intervened into the buying process.

Meanwhile, 996 ginning factories in Punjab and Sindh have become operational and started converting seed cotton (Phutti) into bales.

There are almost 1300 ginning factories in the country and 271 of them started functioning in Sindh and 725 in Punjab from Nov 15.

The report stated that cotton arrivals this year registered downfall of 23.17 per cent,however,district Sanghar maintained its top position up till now as over 1.2 million bales have reached ginneries in the district.

No other district has so far touched the figure of even one million bales in Punjab and Sindh, according to PCGA fortnightly report statistics.
