ISLAMABAD: Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastigeer Khan said a total of 239,079 metric ton tea worth $ 684.83 million tea had been imported from various countries during 2010-11 and 2011-2012.
Answering the question of Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, he said 118,657 metric ton tea worth $ 334.06 million was imported in 2010-11. And 120,422 metric ton tea worth $ 350.77 million had been imported in 2011-12.
He said among the imported tea, 95 percent was black tea, whereas small percentage was of other teas including herbal and fruit flavoured teas.
He said Kenya is major trading partner for tea.During 2011-12, $ 217 million worth of tea was imported from Kenya. Other suppliers include India, Rwanda, Vietnam and Indonesia.
