imageKARACHI: Gems and Jewellery Trade Association of China (GJTAC) here signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with All Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Association (APGJA for import of jewellery and gems from Pakistan valuing dollars 4 to 5 million.

The MoU, signed at Expo Centre Karachi on Friday, the second day of 9th ExpoPakistan 2015, is aimed at promoting Pakistan's gems and jewellery in China and for transfer of technology to Pakistan by providing modern machinery for precious stones (gems) cutting and polishing along with experts' services who will train Pakistani gems and jewellery workers.

" Chinese experts will give training to Pakistanis here and also in China," Kashif-ur-Rehman, Chairman, Gems, Jewellery Producers, Manufacturers and Exporters' Committee at Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) told APP here. Ms. Queena on behalf of the President of GJTAC signed this document in presence of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Trade Development of Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) S.M. Muneer and Secretary TDAP, Ms. Rabia Javeri Agha, Mr. Kashif said. He said that GJTAC has also invited members of APGJA to participate in gems and jewellery exhibition scheduled to be held on November in Beijing.

He also informed that a gems and jewellery delegation form Bahrain had a very fruitful meeting APGJA people and they committed to soon placed import orders worth millions of dollars. Last year, he continued, Bahrain had imported gems and jewellery of dollars ten million. Bahrain delegates were interested especially in golden bangles, he said.

Kashif-ur-Rehman said delegates from different countries shown high interest in raw and cut/finished stones like rubi, ameril, peridot and turmaline.

The exhibition houses 30 stalls of which 10 are dedicated to jewellery.

On the occasion, he urged the government to withdraw ban on import of raw gold to discourage its smuggling.
