SIALKOT: Chairman Surgical Instruments Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SIMAP), Tahir Ashfaq Friday said that export of surgical instruments has increased considerably due to effective measures adopted by Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), alongside individual efforts of local business community.
"A delegation of surgical manufacturers and exporters will visit South Africa in May this year for exploring the market and assessing the demand of surgical instruments", he disclosed.
In an interview with APP, he said TDAP was making adequate efforts to enhance export of surgical instruments and was organising trade exhibitions in various countries.
"Export of surgical instruments is US $ 365 million and local industry is producing 120 million surgical instruments, while 1.5 million workers were engaged with this industry", he said.
The SIMAP chairman said that Pakistani surgical instruments' demand is increasing, especially in Ethiopia and other African countries.
He said establishment of Common Facility Centre (CFC) was direly needed to facilitate small/medium surgical instruments manufacturers as it would enable them bring innovation in their products.
Tahir said that modernization of industry has became more imperative at this juncture but local SMEs were unable to install modern machinery in their units and under the circumstances the setting up of common facility centre was vital.
The SIMAP Chairman urged the government to take immediate steps for the clearance of sales tax rebate claims to facilitate the exporters in Sialkot. "It is heartening to note that due to effective efforts of the government electricity load shedding has decreased considerably", he said.
