imageISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended on December 18 for the lowest income group up to Rs. 8,000 registered decrease of 0.04 percent as compared to the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 203.45 points against 203.37 points registered in the previous week, according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2007-2008=100, covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

The SPI for the combined group decreased by 0.22 per cent and was recorded at 211.25 points in the previous week to 211.71 points in the week under review.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review decreased by 0.94 percent.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs.8001-12,000, Rs.12,001-18,000, Rs.18001-35,000 and above Rs.35,000 decreased by 0.12 percent, 0.17 percent, 0.23 percent and 0.29 percent respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 16 items registered decrease, while that of 05 items increase with the remaining 32 items' prices unchanged.

The items which registered decrease in their prices during the week under review included potatoes, onions, sugar, pulse moong (washed), rice basmati (broken), wheat, cooking oil (tin), vegetable ghee (loose), wheat flour (bag),garlic, rice irri-6, pulse gram (washed), pulse masoor (washed), mustard oil, pulse mash (washed) and vegetable ghee (tin).

The items which recorded increase in their average prices included tomatoes, LPG, eggs hen farm, chicken farm (live) and bananas.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included bread plain (medium size), beef, mutton, milk fresh, crud, gur, powder milk, salt, red chilly powder, tea, cooked beef, cooked dal, tea prepared, cigarettes, long cloth, shirting, lawn, georgette, gents sandal, gents chapal, ladies chapal, ladies sandal, electricity charges, gas charges, kerosene oil, fire wood, electric bulb, washing soap, match box, petrol, hi-speed diesel, telephone call local and soap bath.
