imageISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Friday honored the former Pakistan Squash Team Head Coach Jamshed Gul Khan for his matchless services for the promotion of squash in Pakistan.

Speaking at a ceremony held in honor of Jamshed Gul Khan, M. Shakeel Munir, Acting President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry lauded services of Jamshed and described him one of the best coaches the country had produced in recent times, said an ICCI press release.

He also highlighted the need to further improve squash's standard in which Pakistan had produced numerous world champions.

ICCI Vice President M Ashfaq Chatha, Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry, Saeed Ahmed Bhatti, Khalid Chaudhry, Naveed Malik, Nisar Mirza, Akhunzada M Faheem, ex- president Inayat Ullah Mirza, Baser Daud, Sheikh Abdul Waheed and other notables were also present on the occasion.

He said Pakistan is a country of burgeoning youth and government should provide youngsters with every available facility to help them participate at international level and earn more laurels for the country.

He said Pakistan cannot achieve good results in sports without proper spending on sport.

He said Pakistan had ruled the squash world for many decades, when the greats like Jahangir and Jansher Khan were raising the green flag high, but after their retirements, Pakistan squash could not maintain that tempo.

However, Jamshed Gul put a new lease of life in squash game and helped the country win many medals at Asian and world levels.

Speaking at the occasion, Jamshed Gul Khan thanked the ICCI and Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) for acknowledging his contribution to the promotion of squash game.

He said it is because of squash that we have great recognition and respect across the globe, however, he added it was too hurting to see poor performance of Pakistan in squash these days.

He said though he was no more head coach of Pakistan squash yet he was always available for the country and would be ready to serve it in any given role.
