imageKARACHI: Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) is against any call made for civil disobedience as it can have its severe implications on the national economy with direct bearing on the lives of citizens themselves.

FPCCI President, Zakaria Usman in a statement on Monday said any attempt to encourage citizens from not paying their utility bills and taxes or asking them to keep on hold their business would further compromise the economy.

He said the country is already passing through a difficult phase and current political instability complimented by calls for civil disobedience may trigger loss to the national economy.

"This is something that would not only harm the state but would have severe implications on the economy and consequently on the livelihood of the masses, he said.

Zakaria Usman said in a situation when Pak Army is also in a state of war, the country can not be exposed to any further turmoil and trouble.

He said that despite the fact that country is presently exposed to severe energy crisis and industrial units could not be made functional to their potential capacity the business and industrialist community is striving hard for the country's economic stability and progress.

The FPCCI President, referring to the importance of the operation "Zarb e Azb," and the dislocation of hundreds of registered people from North Waziristan during past two months, said this was time to overcome political differences and join hands for their rehabilitation.

He in his statement urged the parties, behind the ongoing sit-ins in Islamabad, not to turn their constitutional right unconstitutional through call for civil disobedience or insistence to enter the designated red zone.

"This is time that all of us join hands and support our army so as to eradicate the menace of terrorism from our country for good," Zakaria Usman.

He said the business community is already paying a heavy price for the situation in a scenario where the country is being significantly managed through the taxes paid by them.

FPCCI President appealed to all political leaders and parliamentarians to find a solution for the current impass through talks and dialogue.

Urging the politicians to rise above their egos, he said that otherwise the country and its people in general would be the ultimate losers.

"If the situation persists the chances of investment in the country would further recede," he said.

Zakaria also claimed that the country has suffered an estimated loss of $ one billion under the head of exports during past two weeks.

"Who is answerable and whom should we hold accountable," he enquired.
