WASHINGTON: Participants of Gem and Jewelry internship program, held under the auspices of the US Department of Commerce's Special American Business Internship Training Program, visited the embassy of Pakistan.
Addressing the participants, Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani thanked the US government for initiating such programs, which are in line with the vision of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan US Joint Action Plan to diversify and enhance its export portfolio, through adoption of modern techniques and through value addition.
He said promoting international trade and investment is the pivot around which Pakistan seeks to devise its economic development and poverty alleviation strategies. These programs imparting technical education are the right steps towards enhancing the trade between the two countries and are of immense benefit to businessmen that participate in these programs.
The ambassador looked forward to enhanced continued interaction between the US and Pakistan in all avenues of cooperation, especially Trade and Investment. He spoke about the recently concluded 7th TIFA discussion here in Washington D.C. and looked forward to working with the US government towards an implementation strategy for the same.
John M. Andersen, the principal deputy assistant secretary for global markets at the US Department of Commerce briefed the participants about various segments of the program. He looked forward to collaborating with Pakistan on all US Department of Commerce Programs, through an increased interaction with the Embassy of Pakistan.
Ambassador Jilani, along with Anderson, awarded certificates to the participants upon successful completion of the program.
