imageISLAMABAD: Exports of sports goods from the country increased by 6.57 percent during the first ten months of the current financial year compared to the exports of the same period of last year.

The exports of sports goods during July-April (2013-14) was recorded at $286.129 million compared to the exports of $269.498 million during July-April (2012-13), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

Among the sports products, the major increase of 33.67 percent was recorded in the trade of footballs, exports of which increased from $115.805 million last year to $154.792 million this year.

However, the exports of gloves decreased by 15.09 percent by falling from the trade of $99.085 million last year to $85.821 million, this year, the data revealed.

Similarly, the exports of all other sports goods also decreased from $53.608 million to $45.516 million, showing downfall of 15.09 percent.

On year-on-year basis, the exports of sports good increased by 33.90 percent. The exports of sports goods in the month of April 2014 were recorded at 39.039 million compared to the exports of 29.155 million last year.

During the month, the exports of footballs increased 67.74 percent, gloves 35.10 percent whereas the exports of other sports goods decreased by 37.20 percent.

On month-on-month basis, the exports of sports products increased by 8.99 percent during April 2014 compared to the exports of $35.818 million in March 2014.

As compared to March 2014, the exports of footballs in April 2014 increased by 14.84 percent whereas exports of gloves decreased by 0.32 percent.

However, the exports of all other sports products increased by 4.27 percent in April 2014 compared to March 2014, the data revealed.

It is pertinent to mention here that the country's trade deficit narrowed by 2.51 percent during first 10 months of current fiscal year as exports expanded by 12.21 percent while imports witnessing a growth of 8.81 percent as compared to the same period of last year.

The overall exports from the country during July-April (2013-14) were recorded at $20.997 billion against the exports of $20.143 billion recorded during July-April 2012-13.

On the other hand, the imports into the country during the period under review were recorded at $37.105 billion against the imports of $36.665 billion during the corresponding period of last year.

Based on the figures, the trade deficit during July-April (2013-14) was recorded at $16.108 billion against the deficit of $16.522 billion in July-April (2012-13), showing negative growth of 2.51 percent.
