Human resource development vital for economic growth: Dr. Asim

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources, Dr. Asim Hussain said on Monday that qualified human resource is the key to success of any organization and quality education is a pre-requisite for development.

He said this while honoring Dr. Salim-uz-Zaman Siddiqui, renowned Scientist of Earth Sciences Department of Qauid-e-Azam University (QAU), by establishing a chair in recognition of his services sponsored by OGDCL and Government Holding Public Limited (GHPL) here.

Dr. Asim Hussain said that educational institutions should focus on research and development in order to provide qualified and technical human resource to industry particularly the Oil and Gas sector.

He said that education and research is the priority of the Government.

He appreciated the efforts of OGDCL for the establishment of chair at Quaid-e-Azam University and urged the university to enhance research activities as the scientific knowledge was pioneered by the Muslim scientists and now we should bring back the glory of knowledge to our institutions.

He also stated that OGDCL has also converted its training institute to Institute of Science and Technology in which Master's level classes in Petroleum Engineering and Earth Sciences will be started soon.

Masood Siddiqui MD OGDCL and Vice Chancellor QAU inked the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the presence of Dr. Asim Hussain.

The chair was sponsored by OGDCL and GHPL with donation of Rs. 3.58 million.

The objective of chair is to bridge gap between industry and university and to initiate research activities in earth sciences department.

Professor Dr. Masoom Yasinzai Vice Chancellor QAU briefed about research activities of the university and thanked Honorable Advisor to Prime Minister and MD OGDCL for the sponsorship of the chair and support to the University.

MD OGDCL said that knowledge and education is very close to their heart and they always try to support educational institutions in Pakistan.

The sponsorship of this chair in the University is one of the steps for educational support.
