imageKARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that over 13,000 people affected by the heatwave have been treated so far at the heatstroke centres set up by the provincial government.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said that the Sindh government has set up heatstroke centres across the province, particularly in Karachi.

Sharjeel Memon said that thousands of patients have been treated at these heatstroke centres. While 822 patients died due to heat-related medical conditions and 650 other patients are still under treatment at various hospitals and heatstroke centres, he added.

He informed that 60 heatstroke centres have been set up at KMC-run hospitals, 36 at other major hospitals and 61 at various other locations in the city. While 173 heatstroke centres have been established in the interior of Sindh, he added.

The minister further said that free water tanker points have been set up at 64 locations in the city. Giving details, he said 16 points are in Malir, 14 in Korangi, 05 each in district South and district East, 09 in district Central and 15 have been made in district West.

The minister said that Sindh government's Emergency Centres are monitoring the situation round the clock, adding that people can contact on the following numbers in case of any emergency situation: 021-99239524, 021-99251458, 021-35842430, 021-35842433 and Fax number: 021-99251463.
