imageLAHORE: The Lahore High Court Thursday seeking reply from federal and provincial governments on petitions challenging local body elections in Cantonment Boards on non-party basis and other connected matters summoned attorney general of Pakistan for April 3.

The court also directed petitioners who had challenged non-party elections to approach the Apex Court.

Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed the orders while hearing eight-petitions filed by Naeem Ahmad and others.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel arguing before the court submitted that local body elections in Cantonments were being held on non-party basis which was a violation of Articles 140 (A), 17 (2) and 25 of the Constitution.

Another counsel submitted that the authorities concerned did not carry out new delimitations for the local body elections in Cantonment Boards which was against the rules.

At this, a deputy attorney general remarked that the Apex court did not issue a clear order in its verdict.

However, the court observed that how government would be formed if there was no political party. The court is not suspending election schedule of Cantonment Boards due to Supereme Court order, he added.

The court adjourning the further hearing till April 3 summoned attorney general of Pakistan to advance his arguments in the light of the Apex Court's verdict.
