imageLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif met President Mamnoon Hussain here on Thursday.

Matters of mutual interests, overall situation of the country and Pak-China agreement were discussed in the meeting.

Talking to the CM, President Mamnoon Hussain lauded efforts of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for the development of the province, including Lahore.

He said the progress made by Punjab under the leadership of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was an example for other provinces.

On this occasion, the chief minister said historic agreements of investment of billions of dollars were signed between Pakistan and China during the recent visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

He said China had again proved to be a true friend of Pakistan. He said the PML-N government would spare no effort for the implementation of projects of investment of billions of dollars signed with China as it will help eliminate loadshedding from the country. He said there was no loan of even a single penny in these projects of billions of dollars and the total investment will be made by China.

The chief minister said economic development was directly linked with political stability and despite certain hurdles the government had put economy in a right direction and economic indicators were improving. He said the recent flood caused a huge damage in Punjab, however, the provincial government with the cooperation of concerned institutions completed the biggest rescue and relief operation in history of the country.

He said a historic package of Rs 16 billion had been given for compensating the losses of flood-hit people and billions of rupees had been distributed among the affected families in a transparent manner. He said the second phase of distribution of financial assistance among the flood-hit people will be completed within next few days.

Shahbaz Sharif said the Punjab government had ensured speedy and transparent completion of development projects in every sector. He said reforms were being introduced for the uplift of social sectors while a monitoring system had been evolved with the help of information technology.

The chief minister also arranged a luncheon in honour of President Mamnoon Hussain.

Provincial Ministers Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz and Political Secretary to Chief Minister Afzaal Bhatti were also present.

Earlier, Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif received President Mamnoon Hussain at the airport when he reached here from Islamabad.

Provincial Minister Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Bilal Yasin, Zakia Shahnawaz, the chief secretary and other senior officers were also present.
