LAHORE: A Lahore High Court division bench Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by senior lawyer Dr Abdul Basit challenging a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) notice for return of Double Shah scam amount.
The bench comprising Justice Syed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi and Justice Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah heard the matter which was pending since 2011.
Earlier, Dr Abdul Basit submitted that four commission agents associated with Double Shah case entrusted Rs 33 million to him for being counsel of Anjuman-e-mutasareen Double Shah case.
The petitioner-lawyer said he received the amount as it was feared that NAB officials would misappropriate the same.
He said he had distributed a substantial amount to the scam affectees in a proper manner but NAB initiated an illegal inquiry against him and the investigation officer issued a notice to him for return of the amount. He pleaded the bench to set aside inquiry and notice by NAB authorities.
But, the NAB's counsel opposed the petitioner's contentions and requested the bench to dismiss the petition.
He submitted that no individual could use NAB authority but the petitioner had retained double Shah scam amount. He submitted that the inquiry was initiated against Dr Basit after fulfilling all legal requirements.
The bench agreed with arguments of NAB's counsel and dismissed the petition.
