ISLAMABAD: Reiterating the pledge to continue struggle for supremacy of the Constitution, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Thursday ruled out the possibility of accepting any unlawful and unconstitutional demands of the parties protesting in front of the Parliament House.
Updating the National Assembly on the proceedings regarding dialogue with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), the minister said, the government has already accepted the demand of registering an FIR in the Model Town killings case. "We had accepted to this lawful demand of PAT and process for registering an FIR has been started".
"As far as their unconstitutional and unlawful demands are concerned, those cannot be accepted", he said explaining that Prime Minister does not enjoy the powers to put in place a national or technocrats government. "To end this stalemate, we had agreed to register an FIR against all accused. But, perhaps it was considered as our weakness".
"Therefore, we reiterate not to concede to any unconstitutional or unlawful demand", he said and added, the government will respect the will of this House that is representative of people of Pakistan.
"Only a few thousand people cannot negate the will of people and this is historic that today whole the House stands united for supremacy of the constitution, the Parliament and the democracy".
The minister said the speakers of the protests have crossed all limits of treachery and treason and the government cannot surrender the initiative to those politicking on corpses. "We shall keep the initiative with this house because the integrity manifested by this House is exemplary in our 68 years history".
"We shall continue this struggle for the supremacy of the constitution and the parliament and we shall be successful", he said and added, there is not such circumstances in the country that National Assembly should be dissolved. "Nobody in this house can exceed the constitutional limits".
Khawaja Asif said, the demands of the PTI and PAT leaders are against the basic principles of creation of Pakistan as they are poised to sabotage war against terrorism on behest of their foreign masters. The country is facing serious threats and the parliament is struggling for its integrity and sovereignty.
He said the government has repeatedly regretted the Model Town incident and now it has also conceded to their demand as well as the observations of the Session Court as well as High Court although the government still had two more avenues to challenge those decisions.
"The heirs of deceased have the right to get registered an FIR. We agree with it but will not bow to any unconstitutional demand", he said and reiterated that this House will succeed and democracy will strengthen.
