imageKARACHI: Sindh livestock department has established 15 camps at Cattle Market off Super Highway to ensure that cattle reaching Karachi, for sacrificial purpose during Eid-e-Qurban, are disease free.

Secretary for livestock and fisheries department, Noor Muhammad Laghari here on Friday informed a meeting that the camps manned by veterinary doctors would help to ensure that cattle failing to meet the health standards are not allowed to put for sale.

"This is crucial for public health safety and to avoid outbreak of any disease," said the secretary.

The meeting held under the chairmanship of Karachi Commissioner, Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui to review arrangements being made at the Cattle Market, considered to be one of the largest in the world, extensively discussed steps required to keep constant vigil ensuring security as well as safety standards.

It was decided that owners, sellers as well as purchasers of sacrificial animals reaching Karachi Cattle Market would also be sensitized about relevance of health and safety of their cattle, as these may otherwise emerge to be a health risk for them and their children too.

A committee, headed by provincial secretary for live stock and fisheries, was thus agreed to be constituted with KMC Director (slaughter) and representatives of Karachi administration among its members.

The committee was asked to regularly visit the market and keep itself updated of the situation and conditions there.
