imageISLAMABAD: The NUST employees and faculty donated their one day salary amounting to Rs 3.5 million for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) whereas the University's alumni contributed Rs 150,000.

Meanwhile the NUST Community Service Club (NCSC) also collected Rs. 1,450,000 for IDPs.

As the Operation 'Zarb-e-Azb' continued in order to eliminate terrorism, the most dangerous threats to Pakistan, about 900,000 people of North Waziristan had to leave their homes to seek shelter at the safe places.

So the NCSC coupled with NUST Administration started a fund raising campaign for IDPs from in the month of July, 2014.

According to the details, in this regard the massive donation drive received generous contributions from both the NUST administration and the University's alumni.

During first phase of relief efforts, 22 families taking refuge In Government Degree College Landi Jhalandar, District Bannu were catered.

The problem of water was resolved, sports equipment and Eid gifts were distributed among the families.

A cheque worth Rs 3.5 million was presented to Brig. Aftab.

In Phase-2, as families were being forced out of the College as calendar year started, NUST distributed a set of pedestal fan, tents and floor mats among them.

Medicines of approximately Rs 1.35 million from donors were provided at Rural Community Hospital, District Dhomail, Bannu.

In the recent phase, NUST's IDPs relief efforts continued when Col. Mehmood identified few IDPs who were dwelling in Swat.

On the directives of Col. Mehmood, & MCS NUST Alumni Mr. Mansoor, (who is currently working at Ufone), truck load of dry ration bought from Multan was transported to Swat including flour, rice, tea, sugar, pulses, oil, salt, tea etc.

In October, a team of six members from NCSC followed the ration items sent to Swat.

On arrival, Civil administration in Swat briefed the NUST team about the problems being faced by the IDPS.

After the briefing, NUST team distributed the food items among the 86 families.

The event was possible not only due to the NUST Alumni but was successful due to the NUST administration support and efforts by NCSC.
