imageISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court disposed of 422 cases, whereas 308 new cases have been instituted during the period from Saturday 11th May 2013 to Friday 17.

According to a press release issued here, the backlog remained 19158, while the backlog on 11th May was 19272 cases.

As 308 new cases were instituted during the said period, thus the progressive total of pending cases on 17th May came to 19580 cases.

Out of these, 422 cases were disposed of during the period from 13 May to 17 May. The backlog on 17 May was 19158 cases.

The Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry also constituted various Benches at the principal seat, Islamabad and at Branch Registries Lahore and Karachi to expedite the case hearings and clear the backlog.

The Chief Justice and the Judges of Supreme Court remained committed to accelerate disposal of the cases and diminish the backlog.

The Judges continued to hear the cases with the aim to minimize the backlog and provide relief to the litigants.
