ISLAMABAD: Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood Tuesday urged the Opposition parties to play its constructive role in government's strive to move the country forward and avoid playing up non-issues.

Talking to a private news channel, minister urged politicians to sit with government and find a solution for the current political crisis that is seriously damaging the country's economy and business.

He said despite different kinds of challenges, the incumbent government was trying to bring the country on the way of development.

“PTI government accord top priority to the welfare of the poor, the honor and security of the motherland,” he said.

Reacting to the opposition leader’s, he said both Asif Ali Zardari and Nawaz Sharif looted the country on the name of democracy.

Minister said the whole nation was paying the price of their wrongdoings as they badly damaged the country's economy and plunged the nation into the quagmire of debts, he said.

He warned opposition parties that the PTI-led government would not back down from holding them accountable for their alleged corrupt practices during their respective tenures, adding, national and public interests were dearer to our government than political ones.

He further said in past, both parties were labeling each other as corrupt but now they were getting united against the government to save their corruption cases.

Replying a question he said the incumbent government would not make any compromise on corrupt leaders, whether it was done by Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz Sharif or anybody else.

He vowed that the PTI government would work for the betterment and development of Naya Pakistan by ensuring people their given due rights and by utilizing all available resources to uplift  living standard of the masses.

Shafqat Mehmood said that PTI came into power when the country was passing through financial crisis, adding, the government was trying its best to provide possible relief to masses.

Responding to another query, he said, increasing literacy rate and bringing out of school children to education network is foremost priority of the government.

He also emphasised on the government's efforts to bring improvements to the quality of education, adding that a market-oriented education would be provided to coming generations.
