ABAD delegation calls on Mayor Karachi

KARACHI: A delegation comprising members of Association of Builders and Developers (ABAD) called on Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar to discuss the matters pertaining to issues about the newly constructed buildings in the city.
The Mayor said though maintenance of roads and pavements around under construction buildings was responsibility of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for which the Sindh Building Control Authority has to pay 37 percent share to the KMC out of betterment charges. However, due to the fact the KMC is not getting this amount how could it maintain these roads and footpaths, said a statement on Monday.
He said that the city is suffering due to this as conditions around the under construction buildings getting worst and debris are left there.
The Mayor said that problems in the city could be solved only if the local governments get required resources.
He said, "We need to change our ways and enable the civic organization at grassroot level to control all such things in the larger interest of the citizens."
He also expressed concern on the demolishing of old and historical buildings in the city and asked the members of ABAD to take care of those so that our heritage could be saved from elimination.
He said that all organizations concerned have to work jointly to solve the problems of city and this is the only way we could progress in right direction.
