LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) Friday reserved 25 per cent quota for female lawyers in the posts of oath commissioners across the Punjab.

In a letter written to all district and sessions judges in Punjab, the LHC registrar said that Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan had approved the women quota against the posts of oath commissioners to encourage new entrants in the profession of law.

"25 per cent of total sanctioned strength of oath commissioners at district headquarters and tehsil headquarters is reserved for female lawyers and all district and sessions judges would ensure compliance of the orders in future", it added. The letter further reads that the quota would also be observed at post of oath commissioners sanctioned at the LHC principal seat and its allied benches.

"If lady lawyers are not interested for appointment then this quota will be treated as non-reserved but it would be subject to a certificate by the concerned sessions judge and bar president", it added.

The sessions judges had been directed to seek fresh recommendations if the lady oath commissioner were less then 25 per cent.
