Prices of essential kitchen items remain stable during this week past against the preceding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday. The survey observed the prices of all the major pulses which witnessed a significant reduction in the past week remained stable as white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 120 per kg, good quality gram at Rs 170 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 100-120 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 100 per kg and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg.
Packed milk prices also remained unchanged as a carton of 9 liters milk was being sold at Rs 1,300 per carton, cooking oil/ghee price also witnessed no change as a 5-liter tin of best quality cooking oil was being sold at Rs 880, and Lipton tea price remained stable at Rs 840 per kg. Moreover price of most of other non-perishable food items remained stable as best quality rice was available at Rs 130 per kg, wheat flour at Rs 750 per 20kg bag and sugar was being sold at Rs 55-60 per kg.
Potato price went up from Rs 70 to Rs 100 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 20 per kg, tomatoes price witnessed no change which was being sold at Rs 100 per 5kg while in retail market it was available at Rs 30-35 per kg, onions price remained stable at Rs 120 per 5kg which in retail market were available at Rs 30-35 per kg.
Local garlic price further remained stable at Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 70 per kg while Chinese garlic price went up from Rs 400 to Rs 430 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 110 per kg against Rs 100 per kg. Ginger price went up from Rs 550 to Rs 650 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 145 per kg. Local lemon price went up from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 per 5kg and Chinese lemon from Rs 650 to Rs 1000 per 5kg while in retail local lemon was being sold at Rs 310 per kg against Rs 250 per kg and Chinese lemon was available at Rs 250 per kg against Rs 160 per kg.
The survey observed that the price of live chicken went up from Rs 5,000 to Rs 5,400 per 40kg in wholesale market which in retail market was being sold at Rs 170 per kg against Rs 150 per kg, and chicken meat was being sold at Rs 290 per kg against Rs 250 per kg. The eggs prices in wholesale market remained stable at Rs 80 per dozen which in retail market were being sold at Rs 90 per dozen. Mutton and beef prices witnessed no change as mutton was being sold at Rs 850 per kg and beef was available at Rs 450 per kg.
Prices of the vegetables witnessed a mixed trend as capsicum was being sold at Rs 120 per 5kg in wholesale market while in retail market it was available at Rs 40-35 per kg; peas were being sold at Rs 200 per 5kg against Rs 120 per 5kg in wholesale market while in retail market they were available at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 30-35 per kg; taro (arvi) was being sold at Rs 200 per 5kg against Rs 160 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 55 per kg against Rs 45 per kg, carrot price remained stable at Rs 130 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 35 per kg; and a pack of 8kg radish price went up from Rs 100 per pack to Rs 130 per pack which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg against Rs 20 per kg.
Bean was available at Rs 230 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 55-60 per kg, okra price went down from Rs 500 to Rs 400 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 130 per kg, and price of ridge gourd (tori) further went down from Rs 350 to Rs 320 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 90 per kg.
Turnip was available at Rs 100 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg, Maroo kadu at Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg, cauliflower price remained stable at Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35 per kg and cabbage price also witnessed no change which was available at Rs 120 per 5kg in wholesale market while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 25 per kg.
Brinjal price remained stable at Rs 150 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 40 per kg, and cucumber price also remained stable at Rs 70 per 5kg, which in retail market was still being sold at Rs 20-25 per kg against Rs 35 per kg.
Fruit prices witnessed an increase as good quality local banana was being sold at Rs 125 per dozen against Rs 110 per dozen, normal quality in the range of Rs 70-90 per dozen against Rs 60-80 per dozen and Indian banana at Rs 200 per dozen. Good quality guava was available at Rs 90 per kg against Rs 80 per kg and its normal quality was being sold in the range of Rs 60-70 per kg against Rs 50-60 per kg. Various qualities of oranges were available in the range of Rs 100-290 per dozen against Rs 100-260 per dozen with normal Kino being sold at Rs 100 per dozen against Rs 90 per dozen and red blood at Rs 290 per dozen against Rs 230 per dozen.
Best quality strawberry was being sold at Rs 150-175 per kg and normal strawberry at Rs 100 per kg, and Chinese pear was being sold at Rs 200 per kg against Rs 180 per kg. Normal quality white apple was being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 90 per kg, Pakistani Kala Kalu apple at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 170 per kg, Iranian Kala Kalu apple at Rs 180 per kg, golden apple at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 150 per kg, ambari apple at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 120 per kg, while Chinese and other imported apples were being sold in the range of Rs 200-250 per kg. New arrival melon was being sold at Rs 350 per 10kg against Rs 450 per 10kg in wholesale market, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60 against Rs 75 per kg. New arrival water melon was being sold at Rs 600 per 40kg in wholesales market which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg.
