Zhao Lijian, Deputy Chief of Mission at embassy of the Peoples' Republic of China, Islamabad said Pakistani students would be provided all required facilities to acquire contemporary education in different fields in Chinese universities. Zhao was addressing a certificate awarding ceremony after inaugurating the established Huawei Authorized Information and Network Academy (HAINA) established at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi on Tuesday.
The ceremony was attended by Engr Shamsul Mulk, president of Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan (SOPREST), Shakil Durrani, executive director, Engr Jehangir Bashar, Rector GIK Institute, Professor Dr Jameel-Un Nabi, Pro-Rector (academic ), Ahsan Basir Sheikh, Pro-Rector (Admin and Finance), faculty members and students of GIK Institute.
With the establishment of HAINA by Huawei, a Chinese Company and GIK Institute have agreed to work together to develop a cooperative working relationship and bridge the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) knowledge and skills gap.
Through the HAINA programme, Huawei and GIK Institute will cooperate to support the regional ICT education, share knowledge, create more opportunities, and build a better ICT talent eco-system.
The collaboration will offer the students a greater opportunity to learn the latest industrial trends and technologies and become Huawei certified in support of their subsequent careers in the ICT industry.
Zhao said the number of Pakistani students in the Chinese universities was 5000 in 2010 and till 2016 the number has reached to 22000.
About China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), he said Pakistan and China first focus on the energy provision and upgrading the infrastructure and the remaining sections of this high-valued project would be followed soon.
Rector Engr Jehangir Bashar said GIK Institute already has substantial academic connections with Chinese universities. To give some examples, we have signed MoUs with Northwestern Polytechnical University, and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, he said.
Technical Chief Officer of Huawei Dupeng Peter said he was really pleased to visit the GIK Institute and see the modern facilities provided to the students.
Speaking on the occasion, HAINA director Dr Ghulam Abbas said through the HAINA programme, Huawei works with leading universities across the world to equip students with highly demanded practical skills and cutting-edge technologies.
Earlier, Zhao gave away certificates to those students who completed the training in the GIK Institute.
