Chairman Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said that due to the steps taken by TEVTA, women enrolment has increased from 23,000 per annum to 46,000 per annum in three years.
Addressing at a meeting of TEVTA Officials at TEVTA Secretariat here on Wednesday, Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that female enrolment at TEVTA's institutes was 23,000 in session 2013-14. When he took charge he pledged to double these numbers and now for session 2016-17 female enrolment remain 46,000, he revealed. He said that for session 2017-18 these numbers will be double by enrolling more than 90,000 female students.
Keeping in view this fact that women play important role in development of every society Irfan said that three years ago when he took charge as Chairman TEVTA and took steps to increase the enrolment of women in technical and vocational training institutes. He said as a result of measurers taken by him enrolment of women was doubled.
Chairman TEVTA also said that for further increasing these numbers, a roadmap has been prepared according to which several female specialized courses will be started in 2018.
He said that among top of these courses is Assistant Nursing course which will be started in collaboration with Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU). This course is specific for women which would provide employment to thousands of women across the largest populated province of Pakistan, he observed.
Irfan Qaiser Sheikh went on saying that besides this course, steps will be taken to increase women enrolment in other courses including driving, IT, beautician, cooking, tailoring, designing and Chinese language. Along with increasing the female enrolment, these courses will also be started in every district of Punjab, he revealed.
He said that TEVTA in collaboration with Akhuwat Foundation provide interest-free loans to its students adding that female students are always given priority for provision of loans through this initiative. He said that this loan can help females to start their own business at smaller scale which would further help them in supporting their families.
He also urged the young women to enrol in the E Rozgar programme as this initiative is the latest and can provide immediate income for them. He also advised them to work along with men to enhance their standard of living. He also said that the ratio of females getting employment is better than males when it comes to the technical and vocational education.
According to a recent research ratio of getting sick for the children of working women is lower than the children of house wives.
