With 40% of the population of Sindh directly involved in agriculture, which in turn contributes approximately 20% to our GDP, it is easy to see why it is vital that we promote, modernise and grow this crucial sector of the provincial economy. It is for this reason that this year is beginning with the Livestock, Dairy, Fisheries, Poultry and Agriculture Exhibition organised by the Sindh Board of Investment and the Sindh Enterprise Development Fund.
The agricultural sector of the economy has great untapped potential which can only be realised through close collaboration between academia, business and rural farmers. I am pleased that for the first time, this exhibition is taking place at the Sindh Agriculture University in Tando Jam. Institutions like this provide the research and technological capabilities to modernise and grow this sector.
The Sindh Government believes in working towards greater self-sufficiency and is glad that the SBI and SEDF are engaging local businesses and centers of learning to achieve this end. Despite limited resources, these organisations are running effectively to improve the lives of ordinary citizens.
Sindh Livestock, Dairy and Poultry Exhibition is being organised in the Agricultural University of Tando Jam to provide solutions to difficulties through collective wisdom and knowledge, and to highlight the opportunities of trade and business related to the agricultural sector.
Students, teachers, agricultural scientists, experts and businessmen participate in this event which will support the cause and find more opportunities to further strengthen the agricultural economy which, eventually, will bring prosperity to the province, country and the people living here.
My heartiest congratulations to Naheed Memon, Chairperson of Sindh Board of Investment, Mehboob ul Haq, CEO of SEDF, all the relevant departments of the Government of Sindh, Vice Chancellor, teachers and students of the Agricultural University at Tando Jam, all the participating companies and organisations and to people who spent their days and nights working here to make this exhibition a success. I hope that all who attend will take maximum advantage of the information collected here.
