Minister of State for Information, Marriyum Aurangzeb said on Friday that no petitioner has so far presented any evidence before the court against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama case. Talking to the media after hearing by the Supreme Court, she said that Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) are accusing the Prime Minister of money laundering and tax evasion, but they have not produced any evidence yet in this regard.
The minister said a case in the Supreme Court cannot be won by levelling mere allegations and on the basis of wishes of some individuals. She said Nawaz Sharif has always demonstrated dignity and nobility in the politics, but PTI is pursuing the politics of indecency and allegations.
Speaking to media, PTI Secretary Information Naeemul Haq condemned the ruling party members for, what he called, hurling threats at the Supreme Court foreseeing the probable verdict against the Prime Minister. "The Supreme Court will soon announce verdict in favour of truth and we will accept the judgement whatever it may be," he added.
"We would call corrupt people as the corrupt, and PTI will continue raising its voice for justice and against oppression and hate and will keep on informing people about its concerns," he said.
Talking to media outside the Supreme Court before the start of the hearing, President Awami Muslim League (AML) Sheikh Rashid said the coffin of corruption would come out from the Supreme Court. "The ministers are trying to threaten us because they fear that the decision might be against the Prime Minister," he said adding that they are also doing this to give an impression of conspiracy against them.
During his 10 days arguments in the court, counsel of the Prime Minister Makhdoom Ali Khan did not inform about the money trail, he said. Such expensive gifts given by the sons of the Prime Minister to their father were not even given by Mughal Emperors to their parents," he added.
Claiming the government is snared in Panamagate case, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq accused the Prime Minister of abusing his official position in his favour. "We feel that the Prime Minister has lost his status while our case is against corruption and not against any specific individual," he added while talking to media outside the Supreme Court.
The JI's counsel highlighted the contradictions in Prime Minister's speech and tried to prove in the court that anyone involved in telling lies and abuse of trust stands disqualified under Articles 62 and 63, he said. Sirajul Haq said, "The world leaders whose names appeared in Panama leaks put up their proofs. When big people make mistake, they talk of immunity while if big people are convicted, there would be rule of law in the country." "Our case is against lies and for search of truth. I am fully satisfied with the Supreme Court and the nation is going to get good news soon," he predicted.
