The Senate Standing Committee on Problems of Less Developed Areas observed on Friday that Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has allocated only Rs 19 billion out of Rs 460 billion for the people of Balochistan during the current fiscal year.
The committee observed that Balochistan has only been allocated Rs 19 billion so far whereby Punjab has so far been allocated Rs 171 billion, Sindh Rs 150 billion, KPK Rs 95 billion, FATA Rs 9 billion, GB Rs 4 billion, and Rs 9 billion have been allocated for the people of AJK.
The committee chaired by Senator Muhammad Usman Khan Kakar directed the BISP to open a regional office in FATA as well. The chairman committee also directed to increase number of offices in Balochistan. The committee recommended the BISP authorities to increase the funding for Balochistan considering the poverty over there which is above 70 per cent.
Chairperson BISP Marvi Memon, however, disclosed that the survey conducted in Balochistan has some problems as only 400,000 people were surveyed. The BISP along with parliamentarians from Balochistan will start a survey in less-developed areas of the province, she affirmed. Marvi Memon informed the committee that biometric system will be introduced in BISP within one-and-a-half years. It was also recommended to use the fund to facilitate education sector and make the attendance a must by using the GPS enrolment.
