Archaeological experts, historians, scholars and intellectuals have stressed upon the people to come forward and extend their full cooperation to government for ownership, protection and preservation of centuries old rich cultural and archaeological heritage of Sindh including Ranikot fort which is rightly called as the great wall of Sindh.
Ranikot fort is historical mysterious fort in Khirthar mountainous range near San, district Jamshoro also known as The Great Wall of Sindh and is believed to be among world's largest forts with a circumference of approximately 26 km, this fort has been compared with the great wall of China. Historians and archaeological experts are still not able to trace who built this mysterious giant fort and for what purpose.
The Scholars observed this while expressing their thoughts at first ever 'Much Kachahry' organised by Culture, Tourism and Antiquities department, Government of Sindh at world famous historical fort of Rannikot in collaboration with Banhbeli, Sindh Historical Heritage Society and Sindh Graduate Association (SGA) on Saturday night.
The prominent among those who spoke and shared their views were provincial Secretary Culture Akbar Laghari, Inam Shaikh, Aziz Kingrani, Naseer Mirza, Zaib Sindhi, Haider Mallah, Ishaq Samejo, Ibrahim Shaikh, Izhar Soomro, Aapa Nazir Naz and others.
Deputy Commissioner Jamshoro Munawar Ali Mahesar, SSP Jamshoro Tariq Wilayat and Assistant Director Culture Tahir Ahmad were present on the occasion and also supervised the arrangements for event.
Dr Epich Rand, an American Archaeologist was special guest who visited Ranikot fort and enjoyed the 'Much Kachahry'. He said that he was really astonished to see the Ranikot fort and have fully enjoyed the traditional folklore of Sughars adding that Ranikot was wonderful giant fort which would attract the tourists and people who love to visit ancient archaeological sites.
Researcher Aziz Kingrani said that great wall of Sindh Ranikot fort needed to be scientifically researched through scientific techniques for dating, so that this precious and astonishing heritage could receive its authentic historical period and recognition.
Noted Scholar Inam Shaikh said that original purpose and architects of Ranikot are unknown, some historians say that it was built during the regimes of Sanssanians, Parthians or Greeks but there is no consensus among historians and archaeologists.
Sindh Secretary for Culture said that aim of organising such events was to create awareness among the common people about ancient heritage sites to highlight their importance and to get their focus for ownership of these historical sites.
He added that various projects were underway for restoration and preservation of archaeological sites, besides initiatives were being taken to promote the tourism and to attract the foreign tourists to recognise the rich culture and ancient archaeological sites at national as well as international level.
